About Col Jim Peterson
I was born and raised in Gothenburg, Nebraska, pop. 3,500 in west-central Nebraska right on I-80, US Hwy. 30, Platte River and the Union Pacific Railroad main line 35 miles east of North Platte. Everything is pretty much agriculturally oriented. At one time Dawson County was called the alfalfa capital county of the world. I believe that to be true. In my youth I was a member of an exclusive group of guys known as "bale haulers." I was part of a custom crew going from farm to farm daily throughout the season loading small bales (65-75 lbs. each) picking up and stacking at the designated location as the farmer requested. Two guys to a straight truck with a cab rack and a pop up bale loader attached. If my figures are correct, in my four seasons I hauled right at 250,000 bales. They don't do this anymore. I've always been proud of this accomplishment even though it doesn't go on a resume.I got my start in the auction business when my dad bought our local sale barn and I cut my teeth there as a back up auctioneer selling weigh up cows and working the ring. Dad sold the barn a few years later and I ended up back in Lincoln. I have had a contract with the city and county selling abandoned/unclaimed vehicles, bicycles and personal property since Sept. 2000. I do this on a monthly basis.I enjoy going to my gym, horse racing (ie. gambling), listening to music, riding motorcycles, except I don't have one right now.Being a part of Blood for Dust was a big thrill for me. It took me back to my start up days at the sale barn. Thank you to Tina Buckingham for choosing me and hats off to my agent Marianne Adams for telling me about the part. This was an awesome experience for me and I am forever grateful....
