Erica Gimpel burst onto the scene as the unforgettable "Coco" in the international hit series Fame (1982). Since that time, she has appeared in dozens of feature films and television shows. She played "Angel Brown" in the NBC series Profiler (1996) and appeared for six seasons as "Adele Newman" in the Emmy Award-winning series ER (1994). Her other television credits include the Golden Globe winning series House (2004), Criminal Minds (2005), recurring role on the Emmy Award-winning Boston Legal (2004), and recurring role on the CW hit Veronica Mars (2004) as Wallace's mother. Some of Ms. Gimpel's favorites include Touched by an Angel (1994) opposite Phylicia Rashad, JAG (1995), and the Christmas fable Santa and Pete (1999) opposite the legendary James Earl Jones.Ms. Gimpel's film credits include the Oscar nominated short "Tuesday Morning Ride" with Ruby Dee, Wayne Wang's "Smoke" opposite Academy Award-winner Forest Whitaker, Abel Ferrara's The King of New York" with Christopher Walken, "Touch Me" opposite Amanda Peet, Hal Hartley's "Flirt" and "No Such Thing" opposite Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren, and Disney's hit "Freaky Friday" opposite Jamie Lee Curtis. Ms. Gimpel has just completed shooting the independent film "Blue Eyes" which was shot in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.While balancing a full acting career Ms. Gimpel is also a singer/songwriter blending the styles of Jazz/Pop and Alternative. Erica Gimpel was born in Manhattan, to Phyllis Bash, a concert singer and Joseph Gimpel, an actor, singer and short story writer. Her parents met and fell in love at their singing teachers studio and got married in the early 60's when interracial marriage was a radical thing to do. As a child, Erica would go on tour with her mother who was performing the role of Bess in the opera "Porgy and Bess". As a member of the chorus, Erica had her first acting experience, and at seven-years-old decided to become an actress. Later, she got accepted into the High School for the Performing Arts' Drama Department where her formal acting training began and passion for the craft ignited. In her junior year, Erica auditioned and got the role of "Coco Hernandez" in the groundbreaking hit TV series "Fame". Erica has gone on to star in numerous TV shows including: "True Blood", "Criminal Minds", "Greys Anatomy", "Nikita", "Rizzoli & Isles", "House", "ER", "Profiler", and "Veronica Mars".Film credits include: "Tuesday Morning Ride" with Ruby Dee, Wayne Wang's "Smoke" opposite Forest Whitaker, Abel Ferrara's "The King of New York" with Christopher Walken, Hal Hartely's "No Such Thing" with Helen Mirren, "Freaky Friday" opposite Jaime Lee Curtis, and the just completed "Romeo and Juliet in Harlem", with Harry Lennix and Aunjanue Ellis. Off-Broadway and Regional credits include: originating the roles of "Mayme" in Lynn Nottages's award-winning "Intimate Apparel", "Glory Bee" in Sam Shepard's "States of Shock" opposite John Malkovich, "Nelly" in Jose Rivera's "Each Day Dies With Sleep", and her most recent performance of multiple characters in the tour-de-force, one-woman play "Sister" by Michael Phillip Edwards.As a singer-songwriter Erica's debut CD, "Spread Your Wings and Fly" quickly became one of CDBaby's top albums and digital downloads in the Jazz/Pop genre.
