About Georgina Haig
Georgina was born in Melbourne Australia to script writer/producer Russell Haig and fine artist Gillian Haig. She has one younger brother, actor/model Julian Haig (Riverdale, Retrograde). Her father moved to London in the 60's and used his architecture degree to secure an art department job on Kubrick's 2001 A Space Odyssey. He worked on various films in the UK and eventually became one of the art directors on Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. Returning to Australia a decade later he turned to script writing and producing (Cash and Company, BMX Bandits, The Cup). Her mother's family were merino sheep farmers in East Gippsland but Gillian's grandfather was a talented painter and drawer. Her Mother would go on to study fine arts at RMIT and work professionally as a mix medium painter. When she was 4 her family relocated to Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, enjoying the rural lifestyle and artistic community. Her own interest for performing began with dance lessons, and copying the local magician from the markets- trying to perform tricks for family friends. She attended Toorak College for high school where she was involved in drama and school plays. Accepted into Arts at Melbourne University she deferred for a gap year, and taught English at Hanoi University of Technology, Vietnam. On return she began her degree but transferred out after a year when she was accepted into the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. After graduating Georgina secured top Australian agent Sue Barnett and began working on local television, films, comedies and commercials (Wasted on the Young, A Moody Christmas, The Mule, Maximum Choppage). Sue went on to introduce her to Ilene Feldman of IFA Talent Agency in Los Angeles. Feldman set up several general meetings for Georgina, one being with Akiva Goldstein. The producer would later think of her for the role of Etta Bishop on Fox's sci-fi cult favorite, Fringe. Georgina sent an audition tape from Sydney, secured the part, and this began her North American career. Her husband Joshua Mapleston (I Rock, Doctor Doctor, Dance Academy) is a screen writer born in Brisbane Queensland. After marrying in Sydney they moved to Vancouver where Georgina played Queen Elsa on ABC's Once Upon A time. She booked the role via a tape sent from Magnetic Island where the couple had been honeymooning. After Vancouver they moved to LA, where their daughter Greta Mapleston was born in 2017. They continue to live and work between Australia and North America....
