Mauricio Ovalle's enigmatic stare, imposing physique and innate ability to embody 'tough guy' characteristics continually assure him roles with some of film and television's top directors.Fluent English and Spanish, the New York-based actor recently showcased his bilingual ability as a Mexican boxing trainer in Ryan Coogler's multi-award-winning Creed (2015) - a follow-up to the Rocky series starring Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan. In Michael Almereyda's screen adaptation of Shakespeare's gritty crime tragedy, Cymbeline (2014), Ovalle plays alongside Ed Harris and John Leguizamo as Cymbeline's steely confidant and protector, Fu Manchu. And in films yet to be released, Ovalle is seen as the conductor in psychological thriller The Girl on the Train (2016), starring Emily Blunt, and Bruce/Mike in indie drama Beat-up Little Seagull (2016), starring Michelle Pfieffer and Kiefer Sutherland.Ovalle's flair for dark comedy is often seen in his television appearances, most recently as: a "contractor", opposite David Tennant in Jessica Jones (2015); "the perp" in a satirical skit for Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (2015); and crooked painter, Matthew Sanches, in The Mysteries of Laura (2014), opposite Debra Messing and Laz Alonso.
