Hyman has emerged in the entertainment industry as a powerful force to be reckoned with.In television this year, Hyman can be seen starring on season three of Showtime's critically acclaimed series "The Chi." Created and Executive Produced by Emmy Award winner Lena Waithe, this coming of age drama explores the complexities of life in the South Side of Chicago, following a group of residents who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption. Hyman shines as Dre who is newly married to Nina (Tyla Abercrumbie) and is now a step-mom to Nina's children, Kevin (Alex Hibbert) and Kiesha (Birgundi Baker). They are all adjusting well to the marriage when a chance event threatens to tear them apart. "The Chi" premiered on June 21, 2020.On the film front, Hyman most recently held a supporting role in the Netflix/Steven Soderbergh critically acclaimed feature "The Laundromat," which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2019. Hyman has also appeared in "The Sun is Also a Star" (MGM/Warner Bros) opposite Yara Shahidi, "Brittany Runs a Marathon" (Amazon Studios) which premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, "Angel" (HBO), and Film Independent Spirit Award nominee and SXSW winner "Most Beautiful Island."Hyman is well known for her role as Dr. Emile Cooper throughout three seasons of CBS' "Blue Bloods," and she has also appeared on "Grey's Anatomy," "The Rookie," "NCIS," "Blindspot," "High Maintenance," "The OA: Part II," "Orange is the New Black," "SMILF," "Odd Mom Out," "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," "Master of None," "Red Oaks," "Unforgettable," "Falling Water," "Blacklist," "Hostages," "30 Rock," "Law & Order," "Conviction" and "The Wire."Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and raised in Philadelphia, Hyman is a classically trained actor, graduating from the Yale School of Drama and is a recipient of the prestigious Princess Grace Award and Leonore Annenberg Fellowship for Performing Arts. She launched her professional career off-Broadway with Richard III opposite Ron Cephas Jones at The Public Theater in New York. She went on to perform in Tempest (La MaMa) playing opposite of the late Reg E. Cathey. Next, she entertained audiences as the lead actor, D'Artagnan, in her performance of Three Musketeers at the Classical Theater of Harlem which garnered her a nomination for an Aucelco award: Best Actress. In 2019, she returned to The Public with the world premiere of Tim Blake Nelson's Socrates in which she played opposite Michael Stulbarg. In 2020, Hyman will play Bolingbroke in The Public Theater's and WNYC's production of Richard II. Originally scheduled to begin the Free Shakespeare in the Park season at The Delacorte Theater, Richard II will broadcast on WNYC as a free four-part radio play from July 13-16, 2020. It will also be streaming at wnyc.org and available nationally and internationally as a podcast.Over the years, Hyman has lent her voice to multiple high-profile video games including The Walking Dead: Michonne (Telltale Games) and Steven Universe's Unleash the Light (Apple Arcade Games) as Bismuth.
