About Nakia Burrise
Nakia Burrise Growing up in Stockton, CA, Nakia was introduced to musical theater and performance in elementary school. She began performing acrobatics by the age of five and later ventured into theater, musical theater, dancing, singing, and modeling. While attending Edison High School in Stockton, California, Nakia auditioned for UCLA's prestigious theater department. She was the only African American female freshman accepted into the theater department that year. By the time she was a junior at UCLA, her professional career had begun. She booked her first role as a series regular on Power Rangers, as Tanya Sloan, the Yellow Power Ranger; while simultaneously recording her first pop album with her singing group, Divine.She is currently a recurring guest star on the new comedy television series, Dangerforce. She's portrayed an array of characters in various series and movies - Sydney to the Max, Atypical, Hart of Dixie (recurring), Jane the Virgin, Baby Daddy, Barbie's Life in the Dreamhouse (voice), The Mindy Project, Rebel, Murder in the First, Angie Tribeca, Star Trek Continue and so much more. Along with her television, voiceover, and web series credits, she has appeared in numerous films, national commercials, musicals, and print ads.In 2012, Nakia launched Sovereignty Entertainment Inc. a production company dedicated to producing family friendly television, web series, and films. Sovereignty produced its first web series in 2015, Class Dismissed. Nakia was the series creator, executive producer, and writer on the project, with 2 successful seasons. She's also co-produced a graphic novel series, "The Order Icarus Rising," a prequel series to a television series that is currently in development.In 2020, Nakia and Catherine Sutherland launched their Youtube Channel, Power Rangers Playback. The channel's content explores the nostalgia of Power Ranger episode playback and commentary, game show trivia - Who Knows it Best, Live stream interviews, comedy skits and much more. In just one year, Power Rangers Playback has 100 paid members and will be introducing a new element to their company, Superchat Podcast in February 2021.Nakia has been an avid leader in her community for years. She launched a Non-Profit in 2009, A Day in the Life, introducing inner city children to career and life opportunities that are not readily accessible in their community. Additionally, she continues to pour back into her community by leading women's groups (over 10 year), and assisting non profit organizations both physically and monetarily.If blessings can flow through you (to others) then blessings will come to you.
