About Ruth Frendo

Ruth is an established freelance Maltese producer / television presenter, who has been working continuously on Malta's main television stations for the past eleven years. Her production and presenting work includes 5,000 hours of documentaries, prime-time talk shows and children's shows amongst many others. She was also one of the show hosts selected to present the 'Welcome Europe Event' when Malta joined the EU in 2004.Ruth is also a published author and has freelanced articles for international (UK and USA) publications. In 2010 she was the creator and the editor of the monthly Maltese magazine 'WOW!' and is now working as editor with Malta's leading weekly television magazine.She has also worked as PRO to an international song contest together with media veterans. Furthermore Ruth has also acted as drama coach for an internationally-awarded television series.Apart from attending various courses not only locally but also overseas, Ruth is in the final phase of obtaining a Masters degree focused on PR, Media and Writing with the prestigious University of Sheffield Hallam (UK).Lastly she was one of the fifteen participants specifically handpicked to attend the 'Training for Audio Visual Professionals' (a first in Malta) organized by the Malta Film Commission and the MEDIA Desk Malta.::Charlo C Bonnici
Born in Malta, which is a beautiful exotic island situated in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea in Europe. From an early age, Ruth started taking an interest in the culture around her, especially since although nowadays Malta is an independent island, for years different countries ruled the ancient island that is why there is a mixture of different cultures. This also helped Ruth to speak not only the two most important languages in Malta that are Maltese and English; but she can also speak Italian fluently and has learnt French. Ruth decided to take up a course in drama after she was a victim during a hold-up when she was eighteen years old. What started out as a hobby, turned to be "the passion of her lifetime" and she landed a role in the blockbuster movie Gladiator (2000) which was shot in Malta, soon after finishing drama school. After that, she was cast in various international television series and drama including Stejjer tan-Nannu (2000) (The Stories Told by Grandfather), One Star Hotel (2201) and Undercover (2002). In just a few years, she became famous for being a versatile actress thanks to a variety of characters she played such as a thief in the epic Il-Pesta (2002) (The Plague), a snobbish lawyer in Qeghdin Sew (2002) (Look At Us), a psychiatrist in the comedic Oops (2003), a emotionally-distressed youngster in L-Ittri (2003) (The Letters), and will now be working as a long-time suffering girlfriend in the comedic Bawxati (2004) (Pranks). She was also cast, and is still well-remembered, for her portrayal of a workaholic nurse in the only soap-opera done in Malta, Ipokriti (2002-03) (Hypocrites). Apart from Gladiator, Ruth has worked in the late Jacques Deray's film Fuga D'Amore (Escape of Love) and had the lead role in both of Albert Moses' movies Accidental Death and The Revenge. Recently, she co-produced together with her husband Charlo C Bonnici, a short movie entitled Blind Date. Apart from drama, Ruth also acted as drama-coach for the European Label Award 2002 winner F'Idejn L-Imhallef (2001-2003) (In the Judge's Hands) for two-and-a-half years.
