About Anushka Manchanda
Music happened to Anushka pretty early in her life. Her mum and dad played some killer rock n roll at home..so the song and dance was constant. She grew up playing the piano, a little bit of guitar and standing in front of the mirror singing Highway Star at full volume.
In her final year at school, she made it to Viva, India's most successful all girl band formed from a nationwide search for the best musical talent in the country. She moved to Bombay from Delhi, sold over half a million copies of her first album..and then the band split.
After that, she jumped into music television, did her stint as a Vj with Channel [V] India hosting shows like [V] On The Run, First Day First Show and Channel [V] Hotline, then quit to start her solo singing career.
Today, she has dubbed with some of the hottest music directors in the country..Vishal-Shekhar, Salim-Suleiman, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Pritam, Amit Trivedi and Anu Malik.
While music remains her priority, her affair with television isn't over. After playing cameo roles in the films Dulha Mil Gaya and Loins Of Punjab, she was a contestant on the second season of the celebrity version of Fear Factor in India called Khatron Ke Khiladi. She was the only singer amongst models and actresses, and she kicked some serious ass..going on to win the show. A few months after that, she was asked to host MTV India's stunt-biking show MTV Stuntmania Reloaded. Having just bought her own motorbike, she didn't think twice before saying yes.
Always one to experiment with her music, she now fronts an indie electro-rock band Shkabang, besides collaborating and performing with other indie acts like The Petri Dish Project and Agni. She is also the voice behind advertisements for brands like Vodafone, Levi's, Sony, Nokia, Dove, Lakme and Nivea, dubbing for voice and jingles both.
Never one for pretentiousness, she's known for her devil-may-care attitude. The Indian paparazzi know that when she's around, there's never a dull moment. She's gone from being a reality tv contestant to being a reality tv judge to being hailed as the voice of the new generation, and is now one of the hottest voices in the Indian film industry. She sings, dances, entertains, performs and travels the country and the world playing live to all kinds of audiences.
